Protect Those Who Protect Our Planet

Rangers face emergencies every day – from poachers and accidents, to climate disasters like wildfires and floods. Many work without adequate equipment, training, or support, and some pay the ultimate price, leaving families behind.

Your donation can provide emergency funding, life-saving gear, training, and support for the families of Fallen Rangers.

This is an emergency, and rangers need us now!

Attack at Upemba National Park

On 5th March, heavily armed insurgents stormed the headquarters of Upemba National Park in Democratic Republic of the Congo. Seven lives were lost, and critical equipment and infrastructure were either looted or destroyed.

The victims ranged in age from 28 to 73.

Thin Green Line is working directly with Upemba’s management team to provide support to the families of the victims. We’ll also do everything we can help support their recovery so their rangers can safely return to work.

Tragic incidents like this remind us of the importance of our emergency funding. But we can’t do it alone.

Why Rangers Need Your Support

Salaries, equipment, uniforms – they’re not luxuries. They’re critical to survival. Without proper gear, rangers can’t patrol safely, respond to emergencies, or protect wildlife and communities.

Funding cuts in the past year have left many rangers struggling to carry out their essential work.

“We don’t have enough field gear and equipment to protect ourselves.”

      – Ranger Alain, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Rangers risk their lives every day. Families are left behind when they pay the ultimate price. Every Fallen Ranger reminds us why your support is urgently needed.

“We were attacked by a group of armed poachers. Unfortunately, we lost three of our guys.”

“In two years, I’ve lost two very close colleagues”

– Ranger Balemba, DRC

What Rangers Protect

Rangers play a critical role in conservation, safeguarding nature, cultural and historical heritage, and protecting the rights and wellbeing of present and future generations. Their responsibilities are vast and varied – from wildlife protection and ecosystem restoration, to climate change mitigation, fire management, tourism oversight, and community liaison and education.

Without immediate support, rangers – and the wildlife and communities they safeguard – are at risk.

“Drought, floods, destroyed forests – these are not future threats. They’re already happening where we work.”

– Ranger Benson, Zambia
